Chickens | Hühner
On the 27th of January, we rescued 12 chickens from rettetdashuhn.ch. They come from industrial farms and were scheduled to be killed as they are one year old. Some of them are molting and not laying eggs currently. This molting phase lasts about two months. Regardless, we still get 8 to 9 eggs every day.
For the last week or so, due to the beautiful, warm weather, the chickens and their two roosters (Öszi and Chestnut) have been enjoying the fresh air, field food and a bit of exploring.
Just a few days before we adopted the chickens, the roosters started fighting, specifically Sonnenstrahl and Chestnut. Sonnenstrahl is the alpha and Chestnut is the lowest ranking. Our neighbors, Pascal and Yeni, who also have chickens, were in the market for a rooster, so we gave them Sonnenstrahl, who now has a coop of his own. He seems very happy there. As of yet, our remaing two roosters are getting along. They are still working out who gets which hens, though.
Am 27. Januar haben wir 12 Hühner aus rettetdashuhn.ch gerettet. Sie stammen aus Industriebetrieben und sollten im Alter von einem Jahr getötet werden. Einige von ihnen häuten und legen derzeit keine Eier. Diese Häutungsphase dauert etwa zwei Monate. Unabhängig davon bekommen wir immer noch 8 bis 9 Eier pro Tag.
In der letzten Woche haben die Hühner und ihre beiden Hähne (Öszi und Chestnut) aufgrund des schönen, warmen Wetters die frische Luft, das Feldfutter und ein bisschen Erkundung genossen.
Nur wenige Tage bevor wir die Hühner adoptierten, begannen die Hähne zu kämpfen, insbesondere Sonnenstrahl und Chestnut. Sonnenstrahl ist das Alpha und Kastanie ist der niedrigste Rang. Unsere Nachbarn Pascal und Yeni, die ebenfalls Hühner haben, waren auf dem Markt für einen Hahn, also gaben wir ihnen Sonnenstrahl, der jetzt einen eigenen Korb hat. Er scheint jetzt sehr glücklich zu sein. Bis jetzt verstehen sich unsere beiden verbleibenden Hähne. Sie arbeiten jedoch immer noch daran, wer welche Hühner bekommt.
