Pumpkin Blossom | Kürbisblüte

I planted pumpkin seedlings into one of our bigger flower beds at the end of April. I had planted dahlia bulbs and flax seeds there, but nothing came up for some time. I bought the pumpkin seedlings knowing that I absolutely wanted pumpkins in the fall, but I hadn't planned where exactly to put them yet. When I saw the flower bed still empty of sprouts, I decided to put the pumpkin seedlings there, in full sun.
Now it's the beginning of June, and it's clear that they're happy there. They've filled up half of the bed with vines and leaves. I had to redirect both of them so that they would in fact stay within the bed walls. This morning the first blossoms bloomed after a day of heat and a night of thunder storms. They are loving the warm summer days and stormy nights we've been having for the last week.
I love seeing the wild tendrils and stems extend in all directions, but I will have to prune them soon if I want good tasting fruit. That will be something I'll do this week.
The dahlias had never sprouted before I put the pumpkins in. It's possible I planted the bulbs too soon. But now, as I lift the pumpkin leaves to check for bugs, I find two fully growing dahlia plants, comfortably growing under the shade of the pumpkin leaves. Dahlias tend to enjoy full sunlight and particularly morning sunlight, which is what they should enjoy if it weren't for the pumpkin leaves. Therefore, I will trim the leaves sheltering the dahlias quite soon and let them enjoy the light and warmth, as well.
Ich habe Ende April Babykürbisse in eines unserer größeren Blumenbeete gepflanzt. Ich hatte dort Dahlienknollen und Leinsamen gepflanzt, aber fast einen Monat lang keimte nichts. Eigentlich wollte ich im Herbst Kürbisse essen, aber ich hatte noch nicht genau geplant, wo genau sie wachsen sollen. Als ich das Blumenbeet noch leer sah, beschloss ich, sie in voller Sonne zu stellen. Jetzt ist es Anfang Juni und es ist klar, dass sie dort glücklich sind. Sie haben das Bett mit Reben und Blättern gefüllt. Ich musste beide umlenken, damit sie in den Betten blieben. An diesem Morgen blühten die ersten Blüten nach einem Tag der Hitze und einer Nacht der Gewitterstürme. Sie lieben die warmen Sommertage und stürmischen Nächte, die wir in der letzten Woche hatten. Ich liebe es, die wilden Ranken und Stängel in allen Richtungen wachsen zu sehen, aber ich muss mehrere Blätter schneiden, wenn ich gut schmeckende Früchte haben will. Ich werde diese Woche die Kürbisse beschneiden.
